Alfred Piano Method Books

Publisher Comments: Alfred’s Basic Piano Library is the most flexible of any piano method, allowing the teacher to personally design curriculums for specific age groups and to meet the needs of each individual student. All of the beginning series are interchangeable at several levels; if a student demonstrates that he or she is ready to study at a faster pace, or perhaps requires a slower pace with more reinforcement, you may switch courses at convenient junctures in the method without missing any important musical concepts!

Publisher Comments: Alfred’s Basic Prep Course was designed and written for students ages 5 years and up. These books take into consideration the normal attention span as well as the small-sized hands of the young beginner. The basics of music are introduced through the use of tuneful but simple music that advances at the proper speed for small children to comprehend and enjoy.

The All-in-One Piano Course was written in response to many requests by piano teachers for just one all-encompassing teaching book, that would include LESSON, THEORY and SOLO material. The All-in-One Course is the combination of the LESSON books of Levels 1A, 1B, and 2 of Alfred’s Basic Piano Library plus selections from Theory, Recital, and Fun Books.

Alfred’s Basic Chord Approach provides an alternate beginning to piano study especially designed for the student aged 10 or older, when the hands are strong enough to begin the use of three-note chords. In the regular series (Alfred’s Basic Piano Library) three-note chords are not presented until late in level 2 (publisher description).

Alfred’s Basic Adult Piano Course is designed for the adult beginner who wishes to learn the piano by playing chords quickly. The course has a number of features that make it particularly successful in achieving this goal. It progresses very smoothly, with no gaps that cause the skipping of hard sections. In addition, it teaches chords for both hands. Because of this, the pieces in Alfred’s Basic are more musical and make playing a richer, more rewarding experience.

Alfred’s Basic Adult All-in-One Course is designed for the beginner looking for a truly complete piano course that includes lesson, theory, technic and popular repertoire in one convenient, all-in-one book.

Written by Dennis Alexander, Martha Mier, Dr. Gayle Kowalchyk, Dr. E.L. Lancaster, and Dr. Victoria McArthur

“The Adult approach to piano study.” The interest in piano and the desire to play, has increased tremendously in the past few years. Especially is this noticeable among adults who have either had some elementary piano instruction in their youth or have been denied this study for various reasons. This increased interest is partly due to the widespread influence of radio. Hearing music almost daily has become an integral part of our lives and it is this constant influence which has awakened a keen and natural desire to become an active participant. it is to the furtherance and stimulation of this natural desire that this course was planned. The adult approach has been kept constantly in mind, however not to the exclusion of certain basic principles which are necessary in order to make rapid and satisfactory progress. The logical and stepwise manner of progression in this course should prove of inestimable aid to both the student and teacher.
